A/B comparison clips between 6 stompboxes and their AXE-FX3 equivalent models. When it comes to modelers, usually the main focus is on the amp simulations. In this clip I decided to focus on the overdrive instead. I picked 6 pedals that have their equivalent model in the AXE-FX3 and recorded an A/B comparison: BOSS SD1 vs SUPER OD IBANEZ TS9 vs T808 OD BOSS FA-1 vs FET PREAMP ProCO RAT vs RAT DISTORTION KORG SDD3000 vs SDD PREAMP EHX BIG MUFF vs PI FUZZ For each comparison, 1st clip is guitar into amp sim only (jcm800 for all clips except ac30tb for the sdd3000 clip), 2nd clip is real pedal, secondo clip is AF3 model, 3rd clip is A/B halfway through. In my opinion, that there are very subtle differences (maybe except for the big muff, where the difference is more evident), but in a blind test I don't think I could tell which is which, and I suppose it would be even more complicated in a mix! "A Les Paul is a Les Paul!" vs "Every Les Paul has its own distinct voice and mojo!" About a year ago I made a short comparison clip between my 4 Les Paul's (one of them is gone now) to point out the differences between 4 different models: - 1999 Custom Shop 59 40th Anniversary - 2015 Custom Shop 74 VOS - 2005 USA Katrina Music Rising Limited Edition - 2010 Custom Shop 68 VOS I wrote a short piece of music to introduce the 4 guitars, and then I went through the same arpeggios, chords and leads using all pickup positions, through a clean, crunchy and dirty amp tone (Marshall model from the Fractal Audio Systems Axe Fx 3). 0:00 Intro 0:10 Song 0:42 Clean Arpeggios 2:12 Edge of breakup Chords 3:34 Dirty Chords 4:04 Dirty Lead 5:05 Conclusions I do believe the difference is not a night vs day kind of thing, but they all have something unique, wether it's the tone, the sustain, the weight, the feel etc.. Testing the new Fractal Audio Systems DynaCabs - namely the 2x12 Class A and 4x12 1960TV - on 2 of Edosounds favorite presets: - U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name (from the U2UV pack for Axe-FX3) - GNR - Use Your Illusion (from Famous Riffs Vol.3 for FM3) What you hear is the stock presets with new DynaCabs. The U2 clip uses the 2X12 Class A pack with a 58 dynamic mic, the GNR uses the 4X12 1960TV pack with a combination of 57 dyn and 121 ribbon mic's. What do you think? I think it sounds pretty amazing!
